26th March - Immersive Visualization Seminar

On the 26th March the AMRC hosted a workshop on the use of haptic devices in assembly simulation.

Over 30 people attended the event, coming from many different sectors including aerospace, automotive, retail and academia.

During the workshop, Virtalis (UK), Haption (FR) and ART (DE) presented hands-on demonstrations of haptic devices, their use and the potential for collaborative working in the virtual assembly environment.

12th March 2009 - JACK Motion Capture Seminar

The Seminar included a presentation from Mr Peter Gunther  ‘Virtual Manufacturing Centre’ FORD Motor Company , and a demonstration of 3D passive Optical Motion Capture from Motion Analysis Corporation (http://www.motionanalysis.com/).

The purpose of the seminar was to demonstrate techniques in the use of JACK and Motion Capture in a ‘loosely constrained’ physical arena rather than a highly accurate (and costly) prototype.  Greater benefits can be achieved by developing techniques that are not restricted by finite calibration of the human to the prototype.

These techniques were demonstrated in relation to;

  • Manufacturing Feasibility
  • Maintenance and installation tasks
  • Ingress and Egress of vehicles and enclosed areas

The seminar took place on Thursday 12th March at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.
